Takao is a 599-meter-high mountain located in Hachioji City, Tokyo, and is part of the Meiji-no-mori Takao National Park and the Tokyo Metropolitan Takao Jinba Nature Park. It is one of the mountains located on the eastern edge of the Kanto Mountains (Chichibu Mountains) and is the dividing line between the Tama River system and the Sagami River system.
There are many climbing courses that can be enjoyed by both beginners and advanced climbers, and the mountain attracts many tourists and climbers throughout the year. There are also tourist attractions such as the Mt. Takao Yakuoin Temple, the Mt. Takao Trick Art Museum, and the Mt. Takao 599 Museum. Seasonal events such as the Mt. Takao Maple Festival and the Takao Umego Plum Festival are also held here.
