Waterfall with a drop of 60m

Hossawa-no-taki Falls is the only waterfall in Tokyo to be named one of the “100 Best Waterfalls in Japan.”

This waterfalls has also been called “Amagoi-taki” (waterfall to pray for rain).

Legend has it that a serpent dwells in the depths of the waterfall basin, where water cascades down from about 60m overhead.

The waterfall is also called “Hossu-no-taki” because it looks like a monk’s hossu (a kind of monk’s robe) falling down, and from there the name was changed to Hossu-zawa. The scene of the waterfall interwoven with the surrounding trees is wonderful in both fresh green and autumn colors, and in winter, the waterfall freezes over, making it attractive in different ways in each season.
