Blue weaving tradition

“kosoen” is an indigo dyeing studio that has been using a technique called “Aku Hakkodate” for over 400 years since the Edo period (1603-1868).
The technique is gentle to the body and the environment because it uses only natural ingredients, and the colors become deeper as they are dyed.
Ome has long been known as a textile production area, and indigo dyeing, which has been passed down from generation to generation, has been called “Japan blue” overseas, and is one of the traditional crafts that have surprised and impressed people.

Since the present workshop was established in 1989 by two brothers of the Murata family to hand down the craft of making crafts from the Edo period, they have been dyeing various items such as clothing and interior decorations.

Another attraction of Tsuboso-en is that the public can enjoy the clothing and bandana indigo-dyeing experience (for a fee).
