Works by Ome Master Gyokudo Kawai

Gyokudo Kawai, a master of the nihonga world, spent more than ten years in Mitake, Ome City from 1944 to his death in 1957.

While preserving the essence of traditional Japanese painting, Gyokudo’s works are known for their unique style of purity and elegance, and his exquisite brushwork was loved by many.

Gyokudo’s love of nature and people endeared him to the people of the region, and the call to build an art museum in Ontake Valley, which Gyokudo loved so much, led to many donations from the Empress, various organizations, local volunteers, and Gyokudo fans from across Japan.

Exhibits are changed six times a year.
